IT MOOC by Enterasys: Learn Networking, IPv6, Wireless & Security Fundamentals Online

Enterasys Networks, part of Siemens Enterprise Communications, will be launching an IT MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) that will enable students and young/new professionals in the IT/Networking field to learn the basics of Data Network Fundamentals, IPv6 Fundamentals, Wireless Fundamentals and Security Concepts, online.

According to the press-release published by Enterasys Networks, these courses will commence by the end of June ’13 and are targeted at a global audience (with or without IT/Network fundamental knowledge). They have also mentioned that there will not be any cost for attending this MOOC and the transcript tracking/communication will be based on Twitter.

The course will be composed of 32 self-paced, weekly modules and can be useful for anyone interested to learn more about practical IT/Networking concepts that are relevant to the industry. Students who successfully complete the course will get a statement of accomplishment from Enterasys Networks, as mentioned in their press release.

I think this is a nice initiative coming from an IT company and they (and other companies) should look at further expanding such courses to working professionals who want to enhance their existing knowledge/skill-set in their chosen area of specialization. MOOC’s are becoming quite popular with various educational institutions/companies experimenting with this concept and this format will be very comfortable for working professionals and students, alike.
