Welcome to bi-monthly Computer Networking/IT industry updates. In this edition, you’ll find some interesting product releases and news published by the vendors in our industry, over the last two weeks (May 06 – May 19, 2014).

#1. Cisco releases The Connective 2.0, a feature on Internet of Things (IoT): WIRED & Cisco present The Connective 2.0, an interesting feature where they explore some interesting (future) applications of Internet of Things (IoT). You can access it from here. It’s also available as an app on iOS, Kindle Fire and Windows tablet platforms. Surprisingly there is no Android version!

#2. Hp launches Helion portfolio of Cloud products and services: Majorly based on OpenStack, Hp has released Helion OpenStack community edition, offers Hp Helion development platform, and other cloud products and services based on the same. Read more…

#3. Dell launches DR6000 De-duplication appliance: According to Dell, DR6000 offers industry’s first source side deduplication for NFS & CIFS backup. This appliance is targeted at enterprise companies. More… Dell has also launched two new thin-client models and one new zero-client model for Citrix. More…

#4. EMC introduces new Hybrid Cloud solution: This is a private cloud + public cloud (multiple providers). Right now they support VMware environments, but they say they plan to support OpenStack & Microsoft environments soon. Details here.

#5. Raritan introduces Rack Power Transfer Switch: Named PX3TS, this switch switches the power supply source (to racks) once it senses power failure. Useful for uninterrupted operation data center loads during power failures. Read more…
